Its a great thing to have, and it is fun to write about certain topics–but is it necessary?

With awesome tools like Facebook, Flickr, Twitter, Digg, Ustream.tv, and Qik, who needs a blog anymore? I feel like they are almost a thing of the past for people like myself who are just trying to stay in touch with friends and family in different places. Many of the social networking sites that I listed above work together seamlessly. For example, when I start streaming live video off of my iPhone via Qik, it automatically sends a Tweet on Twitter which in turn updates my Facebook status. Facebook also has a Flickr app, as well as a plug in to iPhoto to make uploading photos to Facebook a piece of cake. When I digg a story on Digg.com, Facebook automatically publishes that story onto my Facebook wall. Everything just works together.

People give Facebook a bad name for some reason, but when you use it to its full potential (which means not having Christmas trees, cartoon characters, and other ridiculous apps) it is an amazing tool to keep in touch and network with friends and family. Think about some of the tools it has itself without incorperating other networking sites at all. It has an email feature. You can create and manage groups and message all the members at the same time with the click of a button. It integrates with Twitter. Commenting on status’, photos, and other actions is a piece of cake.

Pretty much our entire family uses Facebook, Twitter, and Flickr (except for Dad, who I wish used Twitter and Facebook more often). Because of this, I am considering deleting my personal blog. Click here for an article on this very same subject.

For anyone who didn’t already know, the pastorate is a desk job (for the most part).

This reality has not boded well for my body. I’ve been wanting to loose some of the weight I’ve put on over the past few years, and I’ve been quite unsuccessful in my attempts.

So, I decided that I would have better follow through if I joined a gym. My reasoning was that I would be paying money to be a part of the gym, so I’d probably be more motivated to use it and not “waste” my money. I also have a friend in the church who has gotten in a really good habit of going every week - and I knew I could count on him for encouragement.

So, I’m two weeks in, and wow. I didn’t know if I would survive the first week. My body was screaming for mercy. But now, after going 6 times, I’m starting to adapt. My workout thus far has been 20 minutes of weight lifting using some pretty amazing machines (they automatically set up the right amount of weight for you based on what you can lift during a “test mode”), and 30 straight minutes of jogging on a treadmill (cardio workout that gets my heart rate up to about 152).

I am beginning to see a difference in myself, and that gets me excited!

While the rest of the family was busy last week at NCW Kid’s Camp (and ministering at Parkway Wesleyan in VA), I was blessed to make a day trip with Grandma & Grandpa E. to Stone Mountain State Park in Roaring Gap, NC.

It was a good day…and a much needed “outing” for them. Grandpa had been saying for about 3 weeks that he wanted to go to the mountains. How glad I am that it worked out for me to take them!

I treasure times like this because I’m becoming more & more aware that some day all I’ll have are the sweet memories.

As you can see from the pictures, there is no questioning the resemblence of the two beasts. One look into their eyes and you can see the same black glare, like a evil vortex slowly sucking in the life of all who dare gaze upon them. Both move with a certain inhumane swagger–a dance of death. Both demand respect from all who cross their path. Let it be known throughout all the land, Jake: Bird of Steel–the flutter of you’re powerfull wings can be felt from sea to shining sea. Jake Roberts–you’re WWF wizardry has given you a literal demigod status amoung the pro fighting community. When death come’s knocking at you doors, we can only believe that you will fovever be wreastling each other in that Great Cage Match in the Sky. Who will win? We mortals can never tell. All we know is that in those days, the thunder will boom a little louder.
